Students, teachers and custodial staff from 103 DOE schools in New York City worked together last spring to collectively conserve 687,110 kWh of electricity and prevent over 1 million pounds of global warming carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the atmosphere in just four weeks. This year’s NYC DOE Green Cup Challenge will be held from Nov. 5 through Dec. 3. Schools should register between now and October 26. This year’s award pool is $100,000 with schools getting funds based on the kWh saved. Schools that achieve the greatest percent reduction will receive additional funds.
