Bill de Blasio released a complete policy agenda today called “One New York, Rising Together.” Here’s a rundown of his education proposals:

  • Establish truly universal full-day pre-kindergarten
  • Offer after-school programs for all middle school students
  • Ensure all students are reading at grade level by third-grade
  • Lower the stakes on testing
  • Expand community schools model in high-poverty neighborhoods
  • Increase focus on college and career readiness
  • Improve special education by focusing on professional development for teachers and principals
  • Reduce class size and focus on teacher retention
  • Strengthen citywide oversight and support for schools
  • Make school breakfasts more available
  • Maintain mandated sex education in schools
  • Ensure every child receives arts education

We excerpted the education section from the full platform, which addresses a full range of policy issues and constituencies, from transportation to animals. Read that here.
