Among the points that the Department of Education is emphasizing: Graduation rates for small high schools are much higher than the graduation rates of the large schools that they replaced, and six-year graduation rates are on the rise as more students who don’t graduate on time are staying in school instead of dropping out.

Another important note on the numbers: The city is steadfastly sticking to its own methodology for calculating graduation rates, which includes August graduates in the four-year rate. The state’s official graduation rate includes only June graduates.
