Weprin wants “ethnically sensitive” school cafeterias

From our inbox:

Council Member Mark Weprin (D-Oakland Gardens) will hold a Town Hall meeting with representatives from the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) Office of SchoolFood to address the South Asian community’s concerns about the need to incorporate a variety of ethnically sensitive and appropriate meal options in public schools.

“Our local public schools should offer food choices that both comply with nutritional policies and meet the needs of the diverse population of Eastern Queens,” said Council Member Weprin.

The mission of the NYCDOE Office of SchoolFood is to promote healthy food choices among students, while accommodating their religious, ethnic, and cultural food preferences.
