City celebrates construction of new “green” school

Chancellor Dennis Walcott’s ribbon-cutting tour continues today at the Highbridge Green School in the Bronx, a new secondary school that has a greenhouse, windmill, and weather station, and solar panels in addition to the regular features that all schools have.

We wrote about Highbridge Green School this week, but not because of its shiny new building. It’s also the site of a “high-dosage” literacy tutoring program that the city hopes will offer a strategy for boosting skills among mid-level readers, who can decode words but struggle to make meaning out of whole texts.
