Learning Leaders Opening Meeting

Learning Leaders will ring in the new school year by celebrating its work with 10,000 parent and community volunteers in 450 New York City partner schools with a keynote address by Dr. John B. King, Jr., NYS Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York. Representatives from the NYC Department of Education, UFT, and City Council, and dedicated corporate and individual supporters will join an audience of 1,000 guests.
This year’s Opening Meeting, hosted by CBS 2 News anchor Dana Tyler and kicked off by the P.S. 57 Drum & Flag Corps, will highlight Learning Leaders’ commitment to the success of New York City students, engaging families and communities in education for over 50 years. As family involvement is increasingly heralded as vital to education reform, Learning Leaders continues to be the go-to resource for public schools throughout the city, supporting parent engagement with proven results including fewer absences, better grades, and an increased number of students pursuing post-secondary education. At the 2011 Opening Meeting, Learning Leaders will seek to expand its network of volunteers and rally support to build even stronger family-school relationships to promote student success this school year.
